Shiny object syndrome is a good thing…

We’re told that shiny object syndrome is a flaw. It’s described as: Unfocused, chaotic and indecisive.

But is it really? I would like to offer a shift in perspective.

If you identify as having shiny object syndrome, it’s worth considering that:

  1. You are aware of other objects when others may not
  2. Your awareness leads you to sample many different things which contribute to your creativity
  3. Focusing only on one thing day in, day out is your idea of a living hell and you’re designed to sample lots of experiences as this energises you. You love spinning many projects and often, people might also not understand how you can do it all!

However, whilst multitasking can be a gift, the challenge is in picking a selection of what feels in alignment.

The proposed strategy: To never say yes immediately. Just pause, sleep on it, even forget about it. Go back to it with a pair of fresh eyes, senses and new awareness and feel into whether it feels like a full F yes.

If this resonates with you, this was me too! I would enter these cycles of taking on so much, burst with overwhelm which would force me to prioritise and ditch what wasn’t serving me.

Now, I pause and prioritise as I go along. A game changer! For my family too as they would often witness me getting into these ridiculous spirals! : p
